Information You Submit
A name, phone number, or address entered in a search form is sent to the third-party service that provides those results. Amherst Residents Directory does not keep its own copy of those search entries. If you send a message, we receive the information you include and use it to respond.
Automatic Technical Data
Our host may create routine server logs, such as an IP address, browser type, page request, and timestamp. We use aggregate information to maintain the service and understand page use. Cookies or similar tools may support basic analytics and, where applicable, advertising measurement.
How Information Is Used
Information is used to operate, secure, measure, and improve the reference service. We do not sell a visitor list or create individual visitor profiles from the material described here.
External Resources
Links lead to public-record portals, library collections, archives, and third-party search services. Those organizations control the data submitted to their sites and publish their own privacy terms. This also applies to sponsored search results supplied by another company.
Service Providers and Disclosures
Hosting and support providers may process the technical logs needed to run the service. Analytics or advertising providers may receive the automatic data described above. We disclose information when valid legal process requires disclosure and otherwise do not share it beyond these operational purposes.
Safeguards and Retention
The service uses an encrypted connection. Logs are retained only for the operational purposes described here. Because Amherst Residents Directory offers no user accounts, it does not keep visitor passwords or a personal account profile.
Visitors Under 18
The service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect a minor’s personal information. Contact us if you believe a minor has sent information to us, and we will remove it.
Your Privacy Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data a service keeps. New York’s Personal Privacy Protection Law, including §95, is an agency-specific framework and does not create a universal removal right for local public records. We keep very little visitor data, so a request normally concerns a contact message or a log. Use the Contact page to make a request. Requests about Town of Amherst, Erie County, or New York records must go to the responsible custodian.
Policy Changes
Changes to this policy will be posted here. Continued use after a posted change means the updated policy applies.
